This English translation is provided for convenience. In the event of any discrepancy, the French version prevails.
1. About the Service
CoupleUp is a relationship well-being mobile application published under the CoupleUp brand (hereinafter “the Publisher” or “we”).

The CoupleUp application (hereinafter “the Application” or “the Service”) offers adult couples digital communication tools: a guided journal, a conflict management protocol, AI-powered rephrasing and summary tools, therapy session tracking, couple quizzes and relationship dashboards.
CoupleUp is not a medical or therapeutic tool. It is in no way a substitute for a medical or psychological consultation or for professional couples therapy.
2. Definitions
- User: any natural person who accesses the Application and holds an Account.
- Couple: two Users who have established a partner link within the Application.
- Account: the User’s personal space, accessible with their login credentials.
- Content: any data entered by the User in the Application (journal entries, conflict messages, notes, quiz answers, etc.).
- AI: the Application’s artificial intelligence features (message rephrasing, post-conflict summaries, coaching, insights), powered by the OpenAI API.
- Premium Features: features available only with a paid subscription (where applicable, depending on the version of the Application).
3. Acceptance of these Terms of Use
Access to and use of the Service are subject to the unreserved acceptance of these Terms of Use. Acceptance is given by checking a dedicated box when creating the Account.
By accepting these Terms of Use, the User declares that they:
- have read and understood these terms in full;
- are at least 18 years old;
- have the legal capacity to enter into a contract.
If the User does not accept these Terms of Use, they must refrain from using the Service.
4. Registration and account creation
4.1 Registration requirements
Registration is restricted to natural persons of legal age (18 and over). By creating an Account, the User certifies that they are at least 18 years old. The Publisher reserves the right to close any Account whose holder is found to be a minor.
4.2 Registration methods
The User can create an Account:
- with their email address and a password;
- with their Google account (OAuth sign-in).
The User agrees to provide accurate, complete and up-to-date information. Any form of impersonation is strictly prohibited.
4.3 Credentials and security
The User is solely responsible for keeping their login credentials confidential. They agree not to share them with third parties and to notify the Publisher immediately at support@coupleup.store of any unauthorized use of their Account.
4.4 Creating a Couple in the Application
To use the collaborative features, a User may invite a partner. An invitation can only be sent to one person at a time. The invited partner must explicitly accept the invitation in order to join the shared space.
5. Description of the Service
5.1 Main features
The Application offers, in particular:
- Guided journal: a personal and shared writing space with reflection prompts;
- Conflict management protocol: a structured, step-by-step tool to help work through disagreements;
- AI tools: AI-assisted message rephrasing, post-conflict summaries and relationship coaching (subject to separate consent — see Article 6);
- Therapy tracking: a space for taking notes and keeping track of therapy appointments;
- Couple quizzes: questionnaires on mutual knowledge and relationship well-being;
- Dashboards: visualization of moods and relationship trends.
5.2 Access to the Service
The Application is available on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). It requires an internet connection and a compatible device.
The Publisher reserves the right to change, add or remove features, provided that Users are informed within a reasonable time.
6. Artificial intelligence (AI) features
6.1 Specific consent
Use of the AI features (rephrasing, summaries, coaching, insights) is subject to the User’s explicit, separate consent, collected within the Application. This consent may be withdrawn at any time from the Account settings.
6.2 Data processing by the AI
When the User activates an AI feature, the text they have entered is transmitted to the OpenAI API (OpenAI, LLC, United States) for processing. This processing involves the temporary transfer of data outside the European Union. The Publisher has put Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) in place with OpenAI.
The User is informed that:
- the only data transmitted to the AI is the data they voluntarily submit through the features concerned;
- OpenAI does not use this data to train its models (Zero Data Retention enabled wherever possible);
- the responses generated by the AI are automated and do not constitute medical, psychological or legal advice.
6.3 Limitations of the AI
The Publisher does not guarantee the accuracy, relevance or suitability of the responses generated by the AI. The User retains full judgment as to the use of the suggestions produced.
7. User obligations
7.1 Compliant use
The User agrees to use the Service in a lawful, fair manner and in accordance with these Terms of Use. In particular, the User agrees not to:
- use the Service for purposes contrary to public order, public decency or the law;
- harass, threaten, insult or infringe the rights of any third party, including their partner within the Application;
- attempt to decompile, disassemble, circumvent or modify the Application;
- use robots, scripts or automated tools to access the Service;
- share their credentials with third parties or create multiple Accounts;
- impersonate another person;
- attempt to access other Users’ data.
7.2 Content entered by the User
The User is solely responsible for the Content they enter in the Application. The User warrants that this Content does not infringe any third-party rights and does not contain any unlawful material.
8. Prohibited content
It is strictly prohibited to enter into the Application any content that:
- constitutes child sexual abuse material or involves minors;
- incites hatred, discrimination or violence;
- glorifies crimes or acts of terrorism;
- constitutes harassment, threats or intimidation;
- infringes the intellectual property rights of third parties;
- contains third parties’ personal data without their consent.
9. Reporting mechanism (DSA)
In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 on digital services (the DSA), the Publisher provides a mechanism for reporting unlawful content or inappropriate behavior.
How to report:
- In-app: via the “Report a problem” button available in the settings;
- Email: support@coupleup.store with the subject line “SIGNALEMENT DSA”.
The Publisher undertakes to handle reports within a reasonable time and to take appropriate action. Any User who submits a report in bad faith may have their Account suspended.
10. Account suspension and termination
10.1 Termination by the User
The User may delete their Account at any time from the “Settings → Delete my account” section of the Application. Deletion is irreversible. It triggers the purge of all of the User’s personal data within 30 days (soft delete), followed by permanent deletion.
Termination by a member of a Couple results in the dissolution of the shared space. The partner keeps their own Account but loses access to the shared data.
10.2 Suspension or termination by the Publisher
The Publisher reserves the right to suspend or terminate an Account, without notice or compensation, in the event of:
- a breach of these Terms of Use or of applicable laws;
- fraudulent or abusive use of the Service;
- a substantiated report of behavior contrary to these terms.
In the event of termination for misconduct, no refund will be issued for any subscription periods in progress.
11. Intellectual property
11.1 The Publisher’s rights
The Application, its source code, design, texts, features, databases and all of its components are the exclusive property of the Publisher or its successors in title, and are protected by intellectual property law.
Any unauthorized reproduction, representation, distribution or exploitation is strictly prohibited.
11.2 User Content
The User retains ownership of all Content they enter in the Application. The User grants the Publisher a limited, non-exclusive, revocable and non-transferable license, strictly as necessary for the technical operation of the Service (storage, display, AI processing upon request).
The Publisher claims no rights over Users’ Content and does not use it for any commercial or advertising purposes or to train AI models.
12. Liability
12.1 Limitation of the Publisher’s liability
The Service is provided “as is”. The Publisher does not warrant that:
- the Service will be available without interruption or error;
- the AI features will produce accurate or appropriate results;
- the Service will be free of bugs or security vulnerabilities.
The Publisher cannot be held liable for:
- decisions made by the User on the basis of the AI’s suggestions;
- indirect, intangible or consequential damages arising from the use of the Service;
- malfunctions resulting from use of the Service that does not comply with these Terms of Use;
- the consequences of unauthorized access to the User’s Account resulting from the disclosure of their credentials.
12.2 Medical and therapeutic disclaimer
CoupleUp is not a medical device within the meaning of European Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR). It does not replace a medical consultation, psychological care or couples therapy. In the event of severe emotional distress, suicidal thoughts or violence within the couple, the User is urged to contact a healthcare professional or the emergency services (15, 17, 18, 3114 in France).
13. Service availability
The Publisher uses reasonable means to ensure the availability of the Service. Interruptions may occur for maintenance or updates, or due to circumstances beyond the Publisher’s control (force majeure, failures of technical service providers).
The Publisher will, where possible, inform Users of scheduled maintenance via an in-app notification.
14. Changes to these Terms of Use
The Publisher reserves the right to amend these Terms of Use at any time. Users will be informed of any substantial change by in-app notification or email at least 15 days before the new terms take effect. Continued use of the Service after this period constitutes acceptance of the new Terms of Use.
15. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms of Use are governed by French law.
In the event of a dispute, the Publisher and the User will endeavor to reach an amicable solution. Failing that, the dispute will be submitted to the competent French courts, subject to any mandatory provisions applicable to consumers residing in another Member State of the European Union.
In accordance with Articles L. 611-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, the User may have free recourse to a consumer mediator: an approved consumer mediator (list available at https://www.economie.gouv.fr/mediation-conso — in French).

Article X — Nature of the Service and medical disclaimer
CoupleUp is a relationship well-being support application. It does not constitute a mental health service, a medical device within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2017/745, or the provision of psychological or psychiatric care.
The features offered (guided journal, communication protocol, artificial intelligence coaching) are support tools that complement — and do not replace — professional care.
The User acknowledges that CoupleUp cannot be held liable for the consequences of using the application as a substitute for appropriate medical or psychological care.
In the event of a crisis, physical danger or severe psychological distress, the User is urged to contact the competent emergency services (in France — SAMU (medical emergencies): 15, Police: 17, national suicide prevention line: 3114).
